About Us
The Associação dos Jovens Macaenses (AJM, or Macanese Youth Association) is a non-profit association founded in July 2012 by a group of young people committed to preserving Macanese identity and culture in Macao and beyond.
A decade later, AJM has grown in size to include not only members of Macanese heritage but all those interested in preserving it. Among the association’s objectives are also to support Macao’s aim of being a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. To this end, one of the association’s goals is to strengthen cultural and business relations with these countries. The association also focuses on promoting civic participation by the younger generation in Macao’s social affairs.
AJM’s primary audience are younger residents of Macao, who connect with the traditions, customs and cultures of the city, as well as the Macanese community. The association regularly organises events and activities to bring these members together.
Promoting cultural knowledge and preserving Macao’s identity

Through AJM, members will be able to deepen their knowledge of the city’s local culture and history, as well as the customs and traditions of the Macanese community, preserving not only the Macanese identity, but also the numerous valuable tangible and intangible cultural heritages of Macao.
Networking platform for young people
Members will have the unique opportunity to partake in networking gatherings and events, associative collaborations, as well as being part of our global connection with Casas de Macau in the Macanese diaspora. Through these events, members will be able to build global connections with other young people.
A door to the future

To promote cultural exchanges, AJM organises numerous trips to the People’s Republic of China where members will be able to expand their network of contacts both with locals and entities of Portuguese and/or Lusophone backgrounds based there.
